Kristen has been floating back and forth between poetry and theatre for about nine years. She has directed several shows at Wombat, including Henry IV, Part I, Fool for Love, Cyrano de Bergerac and The Poets Were Liars. She has also assistant directed (Proof) and performed (Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, When Trees Fall, Beyond Therapy) She is the recipient of the SUNY Oneonta Department Award for Academic Achievement in Theatre (2011), the former president of the SUNY Oneonta poetry Slam Association, and a member of multiple collegiate poetry slam teams. She holds a BA in Theatre and a BA in English from SUNY Oneonta, and an MA in Educational Theatre and English from New York University. Professionally, she has taught acting classes at FIT as well as directed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead with the FIT Theatre Ensemble, and has worked as a teaching artist facilitating creative writing and poetry slam workshops around New York State. She is interested in immersive theatre, as well as the ways in which performance poetry and theatre can be combined for a truly enriching experience that means she doesn't have to choose between the two. During the day, Kristen is an English Language Arts teacher at the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School in Queens.
